Korean-born violinist
Soo Yeon Kim is a multi-faceted artist who regularly appears on stages throughout the U.S. as a soloist, chamber musician and an orchestral player. 


Dr. Kim is a passionate educator as well, using the holistic approach in her teaching, focusing on the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of playing the instrument.
She frequently appears in masterclasses and workshops for aspiring teachers
and young performers across the country.

Teaching

Soo Yeon is a passionate educator based in NYC and NJ areas, enjoying a teaching experience of over a decade. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Violin and Viola at Houghton University, where she also established the university’s very own Summer String Festival and inaugurated Spring String Symposium.

Her specialty and interest lies in string pedagogy, involving the mindfulness and cognitive approach to teaching violin and other string instruments. Having gone through an unusual path (read more) that involves overcoming a decade-long hand injury, she is an avid promoter of mindful practicing and music-making. 

Her young and mature students have won regional competitions and orchestral auditions, and have been admitted to graduate programs at top music conservatories and Pre-College programs at Juilliard, Eastman, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes and University of Texas.
